5 Ways to Celebrate International Bacon Day 2016

Sliced Bacon

Bacon Day is this Saturday, Sept. 3! Here are five celebrations across the United States that are doing it up right.

Bacon Day at the K – Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, Missouri

Bacon Day at the K, presented by Farmland, will feature bacon baseball trivia, extreme bacon recipes, and, of course, free bacon. You’ll also be able to pose next to a Sluggerrr bacon sculpture, pop into the Farmland photo booth, and win a year’s supply of bacon.

It should be a great game as well. The Royals are on a hot streak and they’re just a few games out of a Wild Card spot. They’ll be playing Detroit, one of the other main contenders.

Slater’s 50/50 – Multiple locations in California

There’s a bacon burger, and then there’s a Bacon Burger. With a patty that’s 50% ground beef and 50% bacon, Slater’s 50/50 falls into the big, bold category.

On Bacon Day, they’ll be debuting their brand new Furter 50/50, an “all-beef frank, stuffed with freshly chopped, crispy smoked bacon and then blanketed in bacon strips.” If that isn’t enticing enough, from 11 am to 5 pm, the Furter 50/50 will be free.

San Diego Bacon Fest – Preble Field at NTC Park – San Diego, California

One of the nation’s biggest Bacon Day celebrations, San Diego Bacon Fest is a food- and beer-lover’s idea of heaven. Admission isn’t cheap ($60 to $100), but it’s all-inclusive, including unlimited food and beverage samples! You can also get your Slater’s 50/50 fix here, in case you can’t make it to both.

Something to note — this event is for adults only, which makes sense given the unlimited beer policy.

Bacon Festival – Rousaki’s Riverfront Plaza – Savannah, Georgia

Who says the bacon fun can’t last more than a day? On Sept. 2 and 3, the Savannah Waterfront will host their third annual Bacon Festival.

The festival will feature plenty of entertainment including toy pig derbies, college football viewing parties, and live music, headlined by newcomer Dr. Bacon. Friday night will feature fireworks. And, of course, there will be plenty of opportunity to eat your favorite bacon dishes, including Wet Willies’ cherry-glazed bacon on a stick to Bayou Cafe’s bacon-wrapped shrimp and bacon brownies.
